Dean's Administrative Team
The GCSW Communications Department leads the development, coordination, creation, and distribution of all college publications and news releases, ensuring the College’s voice is clear, consistent, and impactful. As Communications Director, Renia serves as the primary liaison between college leadership, faculty, staff, and local, state, and national media. She acts as the college’s spokesperson, leading all public relations initiatives through strategic partnerships with intra-university offices and the broader GCSW community.
Amy Jones facilitates the full lifecycle of college grants, ensuring all research-related activities comply with Federal, State, Sponsor, institutional, and college guidelines. In this role, Amy supports both operational integrity and regulatory alignment across the GCSW's research efforts.
Ginger Lucas oversees the MSW program and curriculum, ensuring that the courses and experiences at the GCSW equip our students with the knowledge and skills needed to make a meaningful impact in the communities they serve as social work practitioners.
As Assistant Dean for Admissions and Student Affairs, Dr. Mollhagen leads a department of seven that supports more than 550 MSW students across three enrollment models and two campuses, from their first inquiry to graduation. GCSW Admissions oversees recruitment, admissions, advising, scholarships, student programming, student communications, orientation, and graduation, all with the goal of fostering student success.
As Executive Assistant to the Dean, Whitney leads the execution of strategic priorities of the Graduate College of Social Work and ensures the efficient administrative operations of the Dean’s Office. She provides high-level administrative support that includes, but is not limited to, scheduling management and communications, serving as building coordinator, overseeing facility-related operations, and coordinating College-wide events. In addition to these core responsibilities, Whitney serves as a key liaison between the Dean and internal/external stakeholders, supports strategic initiatives, project management, and handles sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
As the Systems Analyst II for the GCSWIT department, I manage key operational systems and provide end-user services and support to GCSW faculty, staff, and students. My leadership lends itself to responsibilities including keycard access, hardware and software procurement, policy and procedure documentation, and ISO compliance. Ensuring our internal community understands and effectively uses university system applications and Office tools is one of the main priorities of our department.
Dr. Sampson oversees and supports the research activities and professional growth of faculty in the Graduate College of Social Work. She provides strategic leadership to advance the Graduate College of Social Work’s research enterprise and support faculty success. This role is responsible for fostering a vibrant research culture, enhancing scholarly productivity, and securing external funding through grants and partnerships as well as creating opportunities for professional development and mentoring. Dr. Sampson leads the Research Office, facilitating interdisciplinary collaborations and ensuring compliance with university and sponsor policies.
The GCSWIT department determines the college's on-premises technology needs and troubleshoots issues with office and classroom hardware and software. We co-manage our Hyflex and General Purpose Classrooms with Classroom Technology, and assist our users with hardware and software purchases in compliance with university best practices and procedures.
As the Associate Dean for Doctoral Education at the GCSW, Dr. Walton provides leadership and oversight for all aspects of the doctoral program within the college, including teaching, mentoring, advocating, and supporting doctoral students. Dr. Walton's goal in this role is to retain and ensure the success of doctoral students at the GCSW.
As Director of Business Operations for the GCSW, Marsha leads the strategic planning and oversight of financial and administrative services, ensuring alignment with University of Houston policies. The college's business office manages key functions including budget and human resources administration, procurement and contracts, and endowment stewardship. We are committed to operational excellence and regulatory compliance across all business processes.

As Director of Recruitment and Admissions, Anna serves as the primary point of contact for prospective students throughout their journey to becoming a GCSW student - from initial inquiry through the start of the program. Anna leads the development and implementation of strategic recruitment initiatives, information sessions, and enrollment management. Anna serves as the GCSW representative at statewide and national conferences to attract and engage future students.
As Director of Alumni Relations, Career Services, and Continuing Education, Ann has dedicated 24 years to strengthening connections between GCSW students, alumni, and the broader social work community. Her work has advanced employment opportunities, alumni engagement, and a diverse array of Continuing Education offerings. She is a trusted resource for career guidance, including résumé reviews, salary data, MSW employment statistics, mentorship, graduate assistantships, job postings, alumni networking, and continuing education program development.
